Samsung to Reveal Newest Galaxy Phone On May 3rd In London

The latest in the Galaxy line-up will be unveiled in London on May 3rd at the Samsung Mobile Unpacked Event. The news was confirmed this morning by several tech websites, including first to break the news Dutch website, which received an invitation to the event. Seen above, the invitation is intentionally vague, empty of any hints as to what the newest phone’s feature or name might be.

The South-Korean super company has kept the name of the follow-up to the Galaxy 2 a secret, perhaps only to build anticipation or maybe because it will be revealing a completely new moniker for the device. Most likely, the phone will be titled the Galaxy S III, following the phone’s respected predecessor the Galaxy S II.

Samsung’s Galaxy S II is currently the brand’s flagship device, consistently gathering praise from users and critics alike. Samsung has done well in the smartphone market as it sold over 97 million smartphones in 2011, and, brought in several awards at the Mobile World Congress’ Global Mobile Awards: one for Best Smartphone of 2011 (for the Galaxy S II) and one for Device Manufacturer Of The Year. Samsung has high expectations to outdo for its next reveal, but the company is on track to impress.

According to BGR, the newest Galaxy smartphone will have a 1.5GHz quad-core Samsung Exynos processor with 4G LTE and Android 4.0. Also expected is an 8-megapixel camera and a 4.8 inch “full HD” 1080p resolution with 16:9 aspect ratio display. This means Blu-ray definition from your smartphone!

There is a curious rumor floating around that the phone’s back plate will be entirely ceramic. Other rumors are that: a brushed blue metal is incorporated into the body of the device, it will feature a home button on screen (like an iPhone), and it won’t use Android 4.0’s on-screen navigation layout.

Samsung’s enigmatic Invitation hints some interesting possibilities. The droplet-like design on the invite could signify an integration of waterproof hardware for the newest device. Samsung has been working on waterproofing their devices and it is a possibility. But, that could just be reading too much into it.

We’re exciting and curious about what they have to show. Can they shoulder above the gigantic expectations they have built for themselves? Tune in to the live streaming of the event on the company’s Mobile Facebook Webpage at 2 p.m. on May 3rd.
