Windows Phone Will Be Getting Upgrade, Wait…No They Won’t

Earlier in the day, a Microsoft developer said that all of its Windows smartphones would be getting upgrades to the next major operating system Apollo. However, now another source close to Microsoft has said that no such thing will happen, that there will be no upgrade from Mango (7.5) to Apollo (8.0).

The Windows Phone system seems to be encountering a ton of problems lately. Adding to the mess, this will no doubt drive Nokia down deeper into the ground. Purchasers of Nokia’s Lumia 900 were counting on being able to upgrade their Windows operating system when the newest operating system comes out.

This could mean that Apollo will be so vastly different and improved from the current Windows Phone 7 that some phone just don’t meet the spec requirements. Still, it seems unlikely that Microsoft would keep Lumia 900 users from upgrading. This would prove terribly complicated for Microsoft, having to juggle all the current Windows Phone 7 users.

We’ll likely hear more on this very soon.
