U.S. Accounts For 40% Of Smartphone Sales Worldwide & Other Interesting Mobile Research Stats

Some interesting finds by research group Chetan Sharma: The U.S. accounts for 40% of all smartphones sales, and in 2012 the mobile industry will bring in $1.5 trillion dollars in revenues.
The research found that mobile apps contributed most to revenue, followed by web browsing, streaming media, music and gaming. These non messaging features make up 53% of total mobile revenue.
According to the report, within the U.S. marketplace, smartphones now account for 69% of all mobile units sold. For context, the global average is 32%. European companies like O2 believe that 90-95% of sales in 2012 will come from smartphones. Worldwide, the U.S. accounts for 40% of smartphone sales.
Total mobile subscribers worldwide reached 6 billion. For context, only 15 months ago that number was 5 billion. Lots off growth is coming from China, a country that already has 1 billion subscribers. The fastest growing country is India, with 75 million new subscribers every 3 months.
